Latest updates – coronavirus (covid-19)

Focusing on the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers is our top priority. In line with national guidance and government recommendations we have taken steps to reschedule services we provide where possible.

All ceremonies (including weddings) remain suspended at this time but we are expecting further information as the Government’s plan unfolds.

On 11 May 2020, the Government published its latest guidance on the coronavirus recovery. It includes examining how to enable slightly larger groups to gather for events such as small weddings during stage two of the recovery plan. Stage two of the plan is not expected to be delivered before 1 June 2020 and will only be considered if the correct conditions are met.

We will continue to update our guidance and will publish details as soon as we are aware of any changes.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your wedding, civil partnership or registering a birth, please get in touch with us directly use our contact us form.

Following legislation changes in response to COVID-19, citizenship ceremonies have been suspended and there has been an extension to the period in which you should have your ceremony increasing from three to six months.

We are currently unable register births but there are currently special provisions in place so that you can put in a claim for child benefit and any tax credits without registering the birth.

From 30 March 2020 registrations for deaths will move to a telephone basis.

These changes will remain in place until Government restrictions are lifted.

Finally, we’d like to encourage all our customers to stay safe in these unprecedented times by keeping up to date with the latest government guidance at and following our social media channels.
