We are now considering how wedding and civil partnership ceremonies with smaller numbers may recommence in some venues.
Due to the localised lockdown in some parts of the county, there won’t be any ceremonies at the register office in Bassett Street, Wigston until the restrictions are eased again. Our Glenfield Registration Office and Anstey Frith House are located in parts of the county that will have eased local restrictions from 18 July onwards. We will be looking at how we might be able to reopen these venues and in what capacity in the next week or so. Further details of this will be updated on this page.
If you have an existing booking, we will contact you individually to discuss the options available to you.
If you do not have a booking, unfortunately we are unable to take any new bookings for ceremonies at this time.
We are asking that customers hoping to book a new ceremony, avoid contacting us at this busy time while we establish what the new guidance means. As soon as we are able to resume new bookings, we will update this website with further detail.
We will continue to react to the latest guidance and will publish further details as soon as we are aware of any changes.
Following legislation changes in response to COVID-19, citizenship ceremonies have been suspended and there has been an extension to the period in which you should have your ceremony increasing from three to six months.
Registration of births
The Government is now allowing birth registrations to take place.
However, due to localised lockdown restrictions, there won’t be any birth registrations at Bassett Street, Wigston until the restrictions are eased again.
Appointments for births are still being offered at the following offices:
(However, people who live in the restricted area are being advised not to travel to these areas, even if they have a confirmed appointment).
Parts of the process have been moved online to minimise contact time in offices. To start registering a birth, please fill in our ‘Register a birth’ form.
Registration of deaths
From 30 March 2020 registrations for deaths will move to a telephone basis.
If the information above does not answer your query and you have an existing booking or appointment, please get in touch with us directly using our contact us form.
These changes will remain in place until Government restrictions are eased further.
